Rohan and Dara’s 27 Week Build – Week 4, Thursday: Thumbtack2

So this is day 2 of our Thumbtack journey as we’re heading into a soft launch for

So far, 10 quotes and no jobs.  Only 3 of those quotes have even been viewed, so really it’s no biggie.  This is the point where we firm things up, test different Thumbtack approaches and go from there.

Note, not every source of jobs will work in every city, but Thumbtack is a simple low cost way of starting to test what is happening in your city and figuring out how your website connects and more.

Here are some Thumbtack tips to make your bid stand out

Make sure your account is appealing

This one is a no-brainer but it has to be said anyhow. It always starts with the landing page, and in this case the landing page is your Thumbtack profile. Take some time, upload a nice photo of you, fill out your account fully, and make your page look as legitimate and professional as possible.

Be the first to bid

Speed is important with Thumbtack bids.  If at all possible be the first to bid.  Install the app, get a notification on your phone, and get your bid in right away.  You’ll increase your chances of getting the job.

Bid on jobs that hint at a date of service

In some cities you will get tons of quote requests coming in each day so you’ll have to spend some time figuring out which ones deserve your time and attention. Simple trick: Focus on the ones that note a date of service.

These are the folks that are ready to act now and are less likely to just be price-shopping.

Add a video to your bid

The add the above video to our Thumbtack bids.

This is a technique we use to make our bids stand out even more. We just filmed a Thumbtack video and include a link to the video in our bid and we have seen substantial increases in conversion rates.

Send a message when your bid is viewed

This will come across a bit stalkerish maybe but we love it. Thumbtack sends an email to let you know your quote has been viewed. Perfect time to send a short two or three line email to let the potential client know you’re there to answer any questions.

Works well!

Include a unique discount code

We always include strong call to actions in our bids. Want to make your bid even stronger?

Add a discount code that is unique to that person. So for example, a request from a lady named Pamela? We would make the code: specialdiscount4Pamela  🙂

There you have it.  Some quick improvements that you can make to your Thumbtack bidding process.

Tomorrow will be super exciting as we show how we get our first couple of jobs!

See you then!
